About ADNRC

Driving science-based solutions for Africa’s drylands

The African Drylands Nexus Research Center (ADNRC) is a newly established, Kenya-based, research-driven NGO dedicated to advancing research on climate change and the Water–Energy–Food–Ecosystem (WEFE) nexus in Africa’s drylands.

We aim to become a leading regional hub for research and action, transforming science into practical, lasting solutions for some of the world’s most climate-vulnerable regions. By integrating climate change adaptation with the nexus approach, we uncover synergies and manage trade-offs, ensuring that progress in one sector strengthens rather than undermines another.

Vision

To be a leading regional center advancing climate change and water–energy–food–ecosystem nexus research in Africa’s drylands, fostering partnerships that drive innovation, resilience, and sustainable development.

Mission

We harness the WEFE nexus to strengthen dryland systems, co-creating solutions with communities, governments, and institutions to build resilience, improve livelihoods, and restore fragile environments.

Core Thematic Areas

  • Water Security: Rainwater harvesting, groundwater management, drought forecasting.
  • Sustainable Food Systems: Linking food security with water and land restoration.
  • Solar Energy for Water Security: Solar energy for water production, treatment, irrigation.
  • Climate Adaptation & Carbon Management: Rangeland restoration, carbon capture, sustainable land management.
